Q.

How do I become a participant, enroll, in the Legal Services Plan?

A.

If you are a member of the Credit Union (CU), you must complete the form at the CU authorizing the cost be withheld from your account and paid to the Legal Services Fund each month. If you are employed by Sysco, the CU & Legal Services form should be part of your hiring package.  If you are retired, you need to contact the Pension Fund office or the CU for the form to complete.

What is the cost of Legal Services coverage?

$15.00 per month

When am I eligible for coverage?

A.

Eligibility begins once 2 months of contributions are received. You are entitled the first day of the 3rd month. 

Q.

Are my dependents entitled to coverage? 

A.

Yes, your spouse and dependent children up to age 18 are covered by the Legal Plan.

What is covered by the legal fund? 

A.

THESE MUST BE NEW MATTERS, NOT PRE-EXISTING.  Real Estate and landlord/tenant matters, POA, last will & testament and services if named an heir or personal representative of an estate (attorney will charge 50% of the statutory fees allowed by the state of MD (these fees are paid by the estate not you), divorce, child support, guardianship, QDRO, child custody, non-contested adoption, name change, consumer debt and retail credit matters, warrantees & defective materials, wage garnishment, SSA benefits, unemployment compensation (as long as it is not against a signatory employer of the TDH Union, Veteran's benefits, insurance coverage, traffic court, criminal, including misdemeanors and felonies within the MD state District Court. Worker's Comp on behalf of Participant only (state of MD only), Personal injury claims (20% fee), Guardianship of a minor, incompetent or person under other legal disability, review of contracts and other legal documents, General consultation (limited to 4 per year).  Services are limited to one day of trial over the lifetime of the matter. Hours in excess of 1 day of Court will be billed at a rate of $125 per hour.

How do I lose coverage?

A.

You lose coverage by not paying the monthly contributions or voluntarily withdrawing.

Q.

Can coverage be reinstated?

A.

Yes, however you must wait one full year from the date coverage terminated to reenroll.
