Data Security Incident: Horizon Actuarial Services, LLC
Last November, Horizon Actuarial Services received an email
from a group claiming to have accessed personal data from the company’s
computer servers through a unforeseen system vulnerability. Horizon's
investigation determined that the following types of information related to Retirement
Plan participants may have been impacted: Social Security numbers, names, and
dates of birth. Horizon Actuarial is the
company that evaluates the funding for our Retirement Plan and makes sure that
the Retirement Plan complies with all of the federal rules regarding pension
funding. Horizon took appropriate steps
to secure its systems to minimize the chance its data will be accessed again
and will also no longer collect personally identifiable information.
Horizon provided notice of the incident to our Retirement Plan
on January 13, 2022 and began mailing letters to potentially affected
Retirement Plan participants and beneficiaries a reasonable time after. These letters provide more information about
the incident and include information about the steps you can take to protect
your personal information. While it is
very unlikely that our participants’ personal information was retained by the
group that illegally accessed the data, we encourage everyone to take steps to
protect your information, including signing up for the services offered by
Horizon which include an offer of complimentary fraud and identity theft
support services and credit monitoring.
