Vision Service Plan (VSP)

Effective January 1, 2019, VSP Vision Care (VSP) is your new Vision provider for exams, glasses/contacts, etc. 

Benefit Highlights

Under the new program, just about everything will be fully covered. Here’s how it works.

There’s a $20 copay for annual wellness exam (same as your current benefit).

• The Plan will cover everything up to a $400 allowance for frames every two years or up to a $450 allowance for featured brands every two years.
• If you go over the allowance, you will get a 20% discount on covered services from VSP providers.
• Instead of glasses, the Plan will cover everything up to a $400 allowance for contact lenses every two years.
• The program offers discounts on laser vision correction and other services.

  
  

  
  

Under the current benefits, the Plan covered 100% of usual and customary charges up to $400 active members and $200 for retirees for contact lenses or frames every two years. The benefits starting January 1, 2019 will be substantially larger—especially if you go to a VSP provider whose services are offered at a network discount.

Please keep in mind that your annual eye exam benefit is covered in full after a $20 copay. Your new materials benefit through VSP is available every two years and must be maximized at the time of initial purchase. In other words, the utilized allowance must be used all at once at your VSP provider. If any portion of the allowance remains after this initial visit, it may not “banked” for future use.
